Symphony Unbound at The Ramkat
This summer, the Blue Ridge Music Center celebrates 20 years of bringing live music to the Parkway. To mark this milestone, the Symphony and Blue Ridge Music Center have presented a series of performances featuring Galax-based singer/songwriter Dori Freeman, adding strings to Dori’s hits by way of new arrangements from Pattie Hopkins Kinlaw. Concerts were held near Galax at the Blue Ridge Music Center, in Winston-Salem at The Ramkat, and in Greensboro at the North Carolina Folk Festival.

The Symphony’s ambitious full-concert film, Mixtape, made its debut as a Valentine’s gift in February 2021. The concert featured romantic music, poetry, and dance, combined with beautiful lighting and videography. The pandemic necessitated restrictions on gatherings; no more than 40 people were allowed in the room, and only 22 people could be on stage, requiring some sections to play from the house.

Concert for Community
The Winston-Salem Symphony annually performs Concert for Community, a family-friendly, free concert featuring young soloists, the premiere of a work by a young local composer, and a “side-by-side” performance with the WSS Youth Symphony. Enjoy this offering from February 2022, when Karen Ní Bhroin led the combined orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet and Dvořák’s tone poem, The Golden Spinning Wheel.
