The Symphony will perform music that celebrates extraordinary strengths, saluting comic book champions from film as well as our local firefighters, police, and veterans in a special on-stage tribute! The music includes Superman March by John Williams; music from Spiderman, by Danny Elfman; the Ride of the Valkyries, by Richard Wagner; music from Batman films including the Batman Returns Suite, by Danny Elfman and The Dark Knight Rises Theme, by Hans Zimmer; the William Tell Overture, by Gioachino Rossini; and the Armed Forces Salute. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in their superhero costumes.
Subscriptions to the three-concert Discovery Concert Series are $36 for adults and $15 for children. Single tickets for Discovery concerts are $7 for children, ages three to 12 (age two and under, free) and $18 for adults. This concert is part of the Winston-Salem Symphony’s annual Toy Drive partnership with The Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem. Concert goers to all Symphony concerts during the month of November are encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys for children up to age 12 at the concerts. The toys will be distributed through The Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem’s annual Christmas Program.
The doors will open at 2 p.m. on November 6, an hour before performance time, for a variety of child-friendly pre-concert events. Guests will have the opportunity to explore exciting scientific phenomena behind superheroes special powers; create and take home a special superhero themed craft; meet and take photos with a few of their favorite superheroes and superheroines; explore the vehicles and machinery of every day heroes through up close access to a fire truck; and more! They also will be able to hold, play, and learn about instruments at an instrument petting zoo. Pre-concert activities are included in the price of the concert ticket. Discovery Concert for Kids pre-concert activities partners include the Carolina Characters, the Salvation Army of Greater Winston-Salem, the Sawtooth School for Visual Arts, Sciworks, Wake Forest Baptist Health Brenner Children’s Hospital, the Winston-Salem Fire Department, the Winston-Salem Police Department, and WFDD.
