Winston-Salem Symphony Presents Discovery Concert for Kids Star Wars 2.0: The Orchestra Strikes Back!

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (January 16, 2018) – The Winston-Salem Symphony, Robert Moody, Music Director, will present a Discovery Concerts for Kids concert entitled Star Wars 2.0. Under the baton of Maestra Jessica Morel, the Winston-Salem Symphony’s Assistant Conductor, the concert will take place Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Reynolds Auditorium, located at 301 N. Hawthorne Road in Winston-Salem. Pre-concert activities will begin at 2 p.m.

Join the Symphony as the Orchestra Strikes Back and returns to that galaxy far, far away for an afternoon of music from the Star Wars films composed by John Williams. The concert will open with the iconic Main Title from Star Wars. In addition, the Symphony will perform such favorites as “Duel of the Fates” from Episode 1: The Phantom Menace; “Across the Stars” from Episode II: Attack of the Clones; “Battle of the Heroes” from Episode III: Revenge of the Sith; “Cantina Band” from Episode IV: A New Hope; “Imperial March” from Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back; “Luke and Leia” from Episode VI: Return of the Jedi; and “Scherzo for X-Wings” and “Rey’s Theme” from Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The concert will conclude with Star Wars “Throne Room and End Title.”

In addition, attendees will have a change to meet and greet their favorite characters from the Star Wars universe when the Carolina Garrison of the 501st Legion joins the Symphony for pre-concert festivities (includes a photo opportunity) and on-stage fun!

Single tickets for Discovery Concert for Kids Series for the 2017–2018 season are $7 for children, ages three to 12 (age two and under, free) and $18 for adults. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Symphony Box Office at 336.464.0145 or online at WSsymphony.org.

The doors will open at 2 p.m. on February 11, an hour before performance time, for a variety of child-friendly pre-concert events. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the exciting scientific adventures of outer space, experience the thrill of robotics, create and take home a special outer space themed craft, and more! They also will be able to

hold, play, and learn about instruments at an instrument petting zoo. Pre-concert activities are included in the price of the concert ticket. Discovery Concert for Kids pre-concert activities partners include the Carolina Garrison of the 501st Legion, 501st Carolina Garrison, the Winston-Salem Dash, Kaleideum North, Paisley Middle School, Sawtooth School for Visual Arts, and Wake Forest Baptist Health Brenner Children’s Hospital.
